My Role as the School Counselor
Here at Mylan Park Elementary, you will find me involved with many aspects of our school community.
Generally, the School Counselor collaborates with family members, teachers, and administrators in order to implement a well rounded, American School Counselor Association aligned counseling program.
The majority of a School Counselor’s time is spent in direct services to students, addressing student development in academic achievement, career development, personal/social skills, and community involvement. I see students in an individual setting for short term concerns, I lead small group counseling sessions, and I teach classroom guidance lessons each month in Kindergarten through 5th grade. I also lead school wide programs, such as Stomp Out Bullying Week, Random Acts of Kindness Week, and Career Exploration Week. We also have a student council team of class elected students which provides opportunities for students to be involved with leadership roles in their school community.
